The History of Tuckpointing

The tuckpointing method was developed in England in the 1700’s to imitate the existing masonry of a bulilding. The masonry was constructed using rubbed bricks, which were bricks of fine, red finish that were made slightly oversized. Once these bricks were fired and dried, they were cut by hand to a precise size. Once they were arranged and laid with lime mortar, the classic finish of red brick and white mortar was achieved.
